Franz Krause ist Projektleiter und Principal Investigator (PI) im DELTA Projekt. Innerhalb des Projekts führt er außerdem eine Forschung zum Leben im kanadischen Mackenzie Delta durch.

Nach einem Studium in Leiden, Manchester (MSc Environment and Development, 2004) und Berlin (MA Ethnologie, 2006) hat Franz in Aberdeen promoviert (PhD Social Anthropology, 2010). Danach hatte er Stellen als Postdoc am CCRI (2011-2012) und in Tallinn (2012-2016) inne. Von 2015 bis 2019 war Franz Assistant Editor von Social Anthropology/Anthropologie Sociale, der Zeitschrift der Europäischen Ethnologengesellschaft EASA. Seit Februar 2016 ist er Nachwuchsgruppenleiter an der Universität zu Köln.

Franz arbeitet zu Wasser mit Ansätzen aus der phänomenologischen Ethnologie, politischen Ökologie und Umweltgeschichte. Seine abgeschlossenen Forschungsprojekte befassten sich u.a. mit gemeinschaftlicher Bewässerung in den Philippinen, Leben an einem Fluss im finnischen Lappland, Erinnerungen an Überschwemmungen in England und Leben in einem Feuchtgebiet in Estland.
