It's finally out and up for grabs!
After long and careful preparations, our bilingual illustrated book "Delta Worlds: Life between Land and Water" is now available in bookstores. The illustrated book portrays everyday life in the four river deltas we deal with in the project: the Ayeyarwady Delta in Myanmar; the Mackenzie Delta in Canada; the Parnaíba Delta in Brazil; and the Sine-Saloum Delta in Senegal. With this publication, explicitly aimed at a broader readership, we show through many stories, portraits, and visual narratives that life in these places cannot be reduced to the crisis scenarios we know so well from the media. Instead, we describe delta worlds in their creative diversity as well as in the surprising similarities of the otherwise so different places in Africa, the Arctic, Asia and South America. In doing so, we avoid unnecessary abstractions and generalizations and instead focus on the delta dwellers themselves.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to this wonderful outcome, especially the people in the river deltas who participated in the research, Marie-Helen Scheid for the graphic design, the publisher Reimer Verlag for the excellent cooperation, and the German Research Foundation DFG for its financial support.
More information about the book can be found on our website and at Reimer Verlag (with a reading sample), where the book can also be ordered, in case the way to the next bookstore is too risky due to the pandemic.
