Nora Horisberger

Since June 2016, Nora Horisberger is a PhD Student in the Department of Cultural and Social Anthropology and a member of the DELTA Project "Volatile Waters and the Hydrosocial Anthropocene: A Comparative Study of Life in Major River Deltas". In this project Nora will do research in the Parnaíba Delta

Nora holds an interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree in Biology and Ethnology from the University of Neuchâtel (CH). During her studies in Neuchâtel she gained skills in both Natural Sciences (mainly ecology and botany) and Social Sciences. Towards the end of her Bachelor, she decided to continue her studies focusing more specifically on the interactions between humans and their non human environment.

In October 2015, Nora completed her master’s degree in “Environement: Dynamics of Territories and Society” with a specialization in Environmental Anthropology at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris (F). For her masters thesis, she conducted ethnographic fieldwork in riverine villages in the Maranhão Lowlands, Northeast of Brazil. Her research focused on the relationship between ribeirinhos and the fluctuating dynamics of their environment.

Before enrolling in the DELTA Project, Nora worked with the French association “Ethnologues en Herbes”, where she conducted workshops in Urban Ethnology with children from public schools and leisure centres in Paris.
